Human Resources Advisor (MR7278)

Position Summary: 

Responsible for the effective human resource management within Faculty of Education with areas of responsibility including activities related to organizational design, staffing, compensation, benefits administration, performance evaluation and labour/employee relations. Implements HR policies and procedures and provides direction and guidance on human resources issues to the Dean, directors, supervisors and staff. Provides direction to senior administration on workforce planning.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Provide guidance to faculty/department/unit members with respect to the day-to-day management of human resources, including the handling of grievances and disputes, identification of training needs and development/organization of training sessions.
  • Analyze current and potential problems and recommend alternatives.
  • Exercise leadership in directing and influencing faculty/department/unit members in the attainment of established goals and objectives and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Participate in the development of University personnel policies and procedures and their dissemination throughout the faculty/department/unit.
  • Undertake job audits, conduct exit interviews and investigate reasons for staff turnover.
  • Make recommendations with respect to organizational structure, staffing and job abolitions.
  • Oversee recruitment activities and benefits administration for the faculty/department/unit.
  • Oversee administration of performance management reviews and implement salary policies.
  • Undertake organizational reviews to maximize faculty/department/unit efficiency.

Minimum Education & Experience: 

Undergraduate degree

Three (3) years' related experience

Other Qualifying Skills And/Or Abilities: 

Proven interpersonal and communication skills as well as experience in the development and implementation of new human resources programs and procedures, with an ability to gain “buy-in” at several levels. Demonstrated experience researching and implementing best practices and continuous improvement in human resources. Experience in organizational and staff development, in a unionized environment, an asset. Demonstrated ability to supervise, train, motivate and evaluate staff. Proven ability to communicate effectively on sensitive and occasionally competing issues. Computer literate. Knowledge of Banner (HRIS) an asset. Experience in a unionized environment an asset. Human Resource certification (e.g. CHRP certification) an asset. English spoken and written, French spoken and read.
