Position Overview

The Department of Paediatrics in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Clinical Research Assistant. This Part-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 6 months plus a day (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This position will report to the Pediatric Rheumatologist at the Alberta Children's Hospital and Principal Investigator of the Transition Tool-Kit Project. The successful applicant will assist in an investigator-driven research project related to pediatric rheumatology and transition of patients to adult care. This person will manage the overall coordination and participate in all aspects of the study.

This position will be based at the Alberta Children's Hospital, with some time at the Richmond Road Treatment and Diagnostic Centre. Workdays may vary in length and may occasionally include evening and weekend hours as well as national travel for Investigator meetings (multi-centre study: Calgary and Toronto).

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Literature review, collation and summary of relevant manuscripts;
  • Recruitment of study participants in clinic setting and by mail/telephone;
  • Obtain informed consent from study participants;
  • Coordination and facilitation of focus groups;
  • Transcribe data from audio-taped focus groups;
  • Report data in text format;
  • Facilitate ongoing communication among investigators and research assistants;
  • Assist in preparation of manuscripts;
  • Assist in preparation of supporting materials for additional grant proposals and funding requests;
  • Effectively manage time to ensure tasks are completed;
  • Anticipate problems and develop preventative solutions;
  • Assist in developing patient databases

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree required, Master's in a health related field preferred; background in Paediatrics is an asset;
  • 0-1 year experience required;
  • Proficient computer skills; experience using Word, Reference Manager (e.g. EndNote), Excel, Access, and statistical software (QRS NVivo is an asset);
  • Statistical knowledge an asset;
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently (with minimal supervision);
  • Ability to work successfully within a timeframe;
  • Ability to self-motivate and take initiative;
  • Be resourceful, innovative, creative, and strategic in problem solving;
  • Outstanding communication skills (written, verbal and interpersonal);
    Superior organizational, time management, interpersonal, and problem solving skills;
  • Demonstrated commitment to accuracy and attention to detail.
