Faculty Position

The Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences, Western College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Large Animal Theriogenology at the level of Assistant Professor/Associate Professor beginning January 1, 2016 or when a successful candidate has been found. Hiring rank will be contingent on qualifications and experience.

Qualifications: Applicants must hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (or equivalent) and be eligible for membership in the Saskatchewan Veterinary Medical Association.  Evidence of clinical training, board certification or board eligibility in the American College of Theriogenology, The European College of Animal Reproduction or the Australia New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (Animal Reproduction) and a graduate degree are required.  Board certification will be required for tenure.  Applicants must have a proven commitment to high quality teaching and research and preference will be given to those demonstrating past experiences and the development of an innovative research program in an appropriate field of study.

Duties: This position is primarily intended for a theriogenologist with a bovine research emphasis and clinical expertise. Training across a broad range of species is considered necessary to align with WCVM’s clinical service and teaching programs which has a strong comparative Theriogenology basis. The potential for the establishment of a strong, internationally recognized, independent or collaborative research program will be necessary.

The successful applicant will be expected to participate in teaching undergraduate and graduate students in both classroom and clinical settings.

The Western College of Veterinary Medicine: The WCVM is Western Canada’s regional college of veterinary medicine.  Approximately 80 students from the four Western provinces and the Northern jurisdictions are admitted to the DVM program each year. The College also includes 140 graduate students, interns and residents. It is part of a comprehensive academic health sciences group on the university campus, with access to facilities including the Canadian Light Source and the Biomedical Beamline. The Veterinary Medical Centre: The VMC has undergone substantial expansion and renovation, and it is currently an outstanding state-of-the-art facility serving Western Canada as an AVMA and AAHA accredited hospital and referral centre. The College and Centre is equipped for transcervical insemination (TCI), laparoscopic artificial insemination, computer assisted sperm analysis (CASA), in-vitro fertilization (IVF), ultrasound and other imaging modalities (CT, MRI).

Salary & Benefits:  The current salary range for an Assistant Professor is $90,796 to $109,108 and for an Associate Professor it is $109,108 to $127,420.
