Salary Information:  $3,239.60 to $4,374.07 per month (Operational Services, Phase 4). The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience. 

Primary Purpose:  To provide clerical and administrative support to the Native Law Centre (NLC). 

Nature of Work: Reporting to the Administrative Assistant in the NLC, this position interacts with a diverse group of individuals including students, faculty, staff and the public. The incumbent exercises discretionary decision-making and decisions according to established policies. The work encompasses a broad range of complex duties and processes that involve deadlines, peak periods and situations that requires both the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Tasks involve sensitive and confidential matters. It is a high volume position that requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, subject to multiple, conflicting deadlines and priorities, with frequent interruptions. It is expected that the incumbent will have excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail in maintaining records and correspondence. All staff work independently in addition to working as a team to provide services to the Native Law Centre. 

Typical Duties: Responsible for providing first point of contact (reception) for all individuals arriving and calling in to Native Law Centre including communicating appropriate information and directing individuals to appropriate areas; administrative and clerical support to the Program of Legal Studies for Native People (PLSNP) including but not limited to: drafting correspondence; coordinating, preparing and documenting teaching and class evaluations; preparing exams and course outlines; coordinating A/V requirements; communicating with students and others on up-to-date information; data entry; generating reports; textbook ordering; student file preparation; liaising with other law schools for advertising program and other information for the program; payroll; and financial transactions; provide clerical support to the Publications unit; assist with organizing events for the Native Law Centre and the PLSNP; general Office duties such as arranging for printing services, courier services, ordering of supplies; assist others within the NLC during peak periods; and other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications
Education: Completion of Grade 12 and a recognized post-secondary office administration program.

Experience:  A minimum of two to five years of related experience preferably working in a university/academic environment. 

Skills: Demonstrates highly effective interpersonal, analytical, written and verbal communication skills; demonstrates ability to function in a high volume setting with numerous and conflicting deadlines; demonstrates public relation skills, including the ability to interact effectively with the public, faculty, staff and students; handle all interactions with tact, discretion, confidentiality, cultural sensitivity; ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team; be self-directed and set priorities; recognize problems and determine best course of action and arrive at a solution; demonstrates proficiency with Microsoft Office software as well as University software that relates to position; displays ability to set priorities while achieving goals and objectives in an appropriate time frame; resourcefully addresses issues that arise; provides relevant information and assistance professionally in person, via email and over the phone; communicates in an open and professional manner; demonstrates willingness to assist others.
