Business Intelligence Analyst (IST2E)
Position Summary:
McGill University in Montreal has an immediate opening for a Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst. This is an exciting role working in a team that is developing new and innovative business intelligence solutions. The successful candidate will be one of the BI ambassadors. The BI Analyst works with the business stakeholders to document BI needs and evaluate project opportunities. This resource then serves as a liaison between the end users, the business SMEs and the BI project team. The candidate must gain consensus and approvals on the produced documents. The BI analyst will be encouraged to seek innovations to develop business understanding and insight across the business. This resource will also produce some dashboards and lead all UAT activities. The successful candidate will have experience at implementing a BI system. The BI Analyst will ensure that the BI system meets the current and future needs of the stakeholders and users community. This position calls for an individual who demonstrates knowledge of the BI domain, data analysis skills and very good communication skills.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Work with the business stakeholders from the time a business need is identified to evaluate the BI opportunity.
- Responsible for eliciting detailed BI-related business requirements, including functional, non-functional, dashboards/reports, training, service levels, and performance requirements, from business stakeholders via various mediums such as interviews, surveys, user workshops, product / prototype demos and others.
- Responsible to communicate and maintain relationship with the business users.
- Promote the value of the BI in the University.
- Educate the user’s community on information availability.
- Conduct interviews to determine the business entities definitions and relations across many stakeholders (university wide).
- Conceive dashboards/reports/score cards using the BI “Power User” tools (front-end).
- Contribute at the maintenance of the data dictionary.
- Identification of the BI data sources with the users.
- Develop test scenarios and conduct functional testing to ensure programming / configuration has been done in accordance with functional specifications and business requirements.
- Ensure the cubes, reports, and dashboards present timely, consistent, accurate, complete and valid information.
- Manage the reporting of information quality key performance indicators.
- Responsible for defining user acceptance test strategy and plan based on business requirements and support the execution of User Acceptance Tests.
- Support Business Power Users and Regular Users.
- Produce the user documentation.
- Define training strategy and support development of training materials; support delivery of training to users.
Minimum Education & Experience:
Undergraduate degree (related fields)
Three (3) years' related experience
Other Qualifying Skills And/Or Abilities:
Minimum 1 year as BI analyst. Deep understanding of McGill’s business goals and processes. Ability to understand and clarify business needs formulated by requesters and stakeholders. Must be able to communicate effectively and confidently with end users, team members and all levels of management. Requirements elicitation and meeting facilitation skills and proven experience at driving consensus across multiple stakeholders. Ability to produce and deliver informative, well organized presentations. Ability to translate business requirements into data and technical requirements. Experience in working with cubes, reports, dashboards and statistical analysis (for planning, forecasting, trending and variance analysis). Demonstrated experience in working with the Microsoft BI stack (SQL Server, Sharepoint, and Excel). Demonstrated knowledge of analyzing and documenting business requirements, functional and non-functional specifications for Business Intelligence applications. Demonstrated effective communication, writing and planning skills. Well organized and self-motivated, with strong analytical and problem solving skills.Demonstrated ability to work on multiple initiatives and to manage deadlines. Demonstrated ability to work in an Agile Development environment. English, spoken and written. French spoken and read. Knowledge and experience in Higher Education business domain an asset. Knowledge of the Team Foundation Server would be an asset. Deep understanding of McGill’s business processes would be an asset.
